PAD Vision and Mission

Protecting Animals in Democracy (PAD) is a historic initiative set up by the peaceful and democratic animal protection organisation Uncaged.

We believe that the ultimate test of our humanity is how we treat the most vulnerable and powerless in our society: animals. PAD is also fundamentally committed to human rights.

PAD's mission combines pragmatism with radical idealism: we tackle animal abuse and cruelty democratically through the political process.

PAD seeks to achieve political representation for non-human animals and for the public's concern about their welfare and rights.

We also aim to encourage a rational and informed public debate about the moral status of non-humans and the ethics of practices that cause them suffering.

A major focus of our work is to examine how our political system can be democratically reformed to ensure that animals are given the respect and protection they deserve as inherently valuable, sentient individuals with physical, emotional and social needs.
